The pediatric orthotists at Hanger Clinic address each child’s unique needs. We will evaluate the severity of your child’s condition using commonly accepted techniques such as the Gross Motor Functional Classification Scale (GMFCS), range of motion, and manual muscle testing. Then we will partner with your integrated healthcare team to set appropriate treatment and rehabilitation goals.
We continually adjust our approach to clinical outcomes, because we understand that children’s needs change as they grow. Plus, we emphasize care management over a lifetime. Hanger Clinic orthotists will provide bracing and support solutions for your child now and into adulthood.
Nothing is more important than the health of your child, and you have a choice in healthcare providers. Your clinician is an important partner who is going to be a big part of your child’s life, and Hanger Clinic wants you to find someone who listens to you and will work with you to create solutions to the challenges you will encounter.
Here are some questions that you may want to ask during your evaluation visit:
Hanger Clinic offers a full range of lower limb, spinal and upper limb braces and splints to help protect and support your child from head to toe.
For example, our ankle-foot orthoses (AFO) are custom made to comfortably fit your child and help achieve his or her mobility goals. Our kid-friendly Scootz pediatric AFOs are designed to achieve each child’s rehabilitation goals. Silicone AFOs (SiAFO), which are only available from Hanger Clinic, protect children’s fragile skin. SiAFO products maintain stability while providing more flexibility than a traditional AFO, so they do not restrict crawling, kneeling or pull-to-stand activities.
We also offer the WalkAide® functional electrical stimulation (FES) system, an advanced treatment for foot drop that can be used instead of or along with traditional AFOs. Learn more about WalkAide.
At your fitting appointment, your clinician will provide detailed instructions on how to put on, take off, wear, clean and care for your orthoses.
