The Pediatric Symposium is an evidence-based program designed to provide healthcare professionals with insight into the role of orthotic intervention for optimal management of a wide range of pediatric diagnoses.

The Hanger Institute for Clinical Research and Education, along with the Kansas City, MO Hanger Clinic, and Ability KC have organized this to provide the most up-to-date information and education for pediatric clinicians around the country.

This will be a virtual event for all healthcare professionals who work and care for pediatric orthotic patients. Attendees will have an opportunity to further their knowledge of common pediatric diagnoses, presentations, and the role of orthotic intervention.

  • Occupational Therapy Goals for the Pediatric Patient
  • Orthotist Intervention for the Upper Extremity Pediatric Patient
  • Upper Extremity Collaborative Patient Case Review
  • Physical Therapy Intervention, Techniques, and Outcome Goals to Solve Gait Mechanics and ROM
  • Orthotist Intervention for the Lower Extremity Patient
  • Lower Extremity Collaborative Patient Case Review

Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify upper extremity intervention for improvement of functional range of motion
  2. Assess the goals of each patient: Static vs Dynamic vs Stretching
  3. Discuss pros and cons of serial casting, including time commitment, gait mechanics, skin integrity, tone/spasticity
  4. Analyze what serial casting achieves from an orthotic standpoint and explain device functionality
