A physician’s guide to effective documentation
An important role for a prescribing physician is to identify a patient’s medical necessity for a prosthetic device as well as their future potential for ambulation. Working with other members of the healthcare team (i.e. prosthetists and therapists) can help ensure a comprehensive approach to identifying the most appropriate K level and can reduce the time it takes to collect the required documentation. This course is designed to educate physicians on how to produce meaningful, evidence-based documentation with the support of prosthetists for a better patient outcome.
Dr. Ben Branch, a board certified physician in physical medicine and rehabilitation, will identify common gaps in clinical documentation specific to patients with limb loss. Pulling from his own experiences, Dr. Branch will introduce effective techniques for creating ironclad documentation and will explain the consultative role others on the rehab team can play in helping to ensure the highest functional recovery possible.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the participant should be better able to:
- Quickly identify pertinent medical comorbidities that impact mobility and function
- Trial techniques to quickly write notes to effectively tell a patient’s story
- Integrate evidence-based data and outcomes into patient medical records
- Define the role of the referring physician and prosthetist in creating effective and meaningful documentation
- Identify meaningful medical comorbidites and document the medical impact this will have on prosthetic function
