About This Course
Sagittal synostosis is the most common type of non-syndromic, single-suture craniosynostosis and accounts for approximately 50% of cases. Premature fusion of the sagittal suture inhibits radial growth of the adjacent parietal structure, resulting in a generally scaphocephalic skull deformity with striking morphological characteristics that typically manifest in all three anatomical planes. This course explores the latest advancements in the quantification of phenotypes for sagittal synostosis.
Participants will gain insight into how innovative tools and measured outcomes are transforming care through enhanced diagnosis, treatment optimization, and collaborative decision-making. The course highlights the clinical value of longitudinal care metrics, the role of new technologies in identifying undiagnosed cases, and the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration among the care team for improved patient outcomes.
Target Audience: Pediatric therapists, pediatric physician assistants, nurse practitioners, pediatricians, surgeons, orthotists, and others who care for this patient population
Objectives
Upon completion of this program, learners will be able to:
- Discuss a novel craniometry approach for quantifying pre-operative severity and post-operative correction in sagittal synostosis cases.
- List the benefits and practice utility of measured outcomes for clinical decision-making and directive care.
- Describe current evidence that is helping to shape care for this patient population.
