MyoPro changes that by combining orthotic support with powered assistance that responds to your own muscle signals, enabling meaningful, intentional movement. For patients, that means reclaiming independence, improving quality of life, and engaging in work, hobbies, daily self-care, and the activities that matter most.
What is MyoPro?
MyoPro is a powered upper limb orthosis that uses sensors to detect a patient’s own muscle signals, helping move the arm and hand to restore functional movement. The device is custom-fitted to each patient’s anatomy and controlled through a sensor-based system that detects the user’s intent to move, then triggers muscle activation to complete the movement. The result: patients can perform meaningful activities at home, work, and during recreation, without relying solely on compensatory movements or passive devices.
How It Works and Who May Benefit
MyoPro uses sensors on the skin to detect muscle signals in the forearm and hand. When a patient attempts a movement, the device interprets that intent and powers small motors to assist or complete the desired action. This approach is particularly effective for patients with upper limb paralysis or significant weakness from:
- Stroke – Restoring hemiparetic arm function post-stroke
- Brachial Plexus Injury (BPI) – Enabling functional recovery in traumatic nerve injury
- Other neurological conditions causing upper limb weakness or paralysis
Candidates typically have intact or partially intact nerve-to-muscle pathways and the cognitive ability to use the device intentionally. MyoPro works best for patients motivated to regain function and willing to engage in structured training.

Active, Intent-Driven Movement
Unlike passive orthoses, MyoPro actively responds to your muscle signals. When you attempt a movement, the device detects that intent and provides powered assistance, helping you participate in movement and supporting motor relearning over time.
Customizable Fit and Control
Each MyoPro is individually fitted to the patient’s arm anatomy and needs. Control settings—such as sensitivity, timing, and movement assistance—can be adjusted through software to match the patient’s goals. This customization ensures optimal comfort, safety, and functional outcomes.
Task-Specific Training
MyoPro is most effective when integrated into structured training. Patients work with their clinical team to practice functional tasks (reaching, grasping, lifting) while using the device, building strength and muscle memory that can transfer to activities of daily living.
Portable and Practical
The battery-powered design allows patients to use MyoPro throughout the day for meaningful activities, not just in clinic. Patients can work, prepare meals, care for loved ones, and participate in hobbies with restored arm function.
What to Expect on Your MyoPro Journey
- At your first appointment (which typically takes 60minutes), your orthotist will evaluate your upper limb function, take measurements, and use clinical assessments and questionnaires to determine if MyoPro is an appropriate solution for your needs.
- Once candidacy is determined, the office staff will work to verify insurance coverage, with the goal of providing you with an understanding of your out-of-pocket costs (due to deductible and coinsurance).
3. During a trial fitting, patients can expect clinicians to fit and adjust the device, calibrate it to their muscle signals, and guide them through attempting movements to see how the orthosis responds and assists.
4. Upon completing fabrication of your customized MyoPro, you will return to the clinic for fitting and delivery. This appointment typically lasts 90 minutes. At that time, your orthotist will evaluate and adjust the device to ensure a comfortable fit and proper function. They will review electrode placement, show you how to don and doff the orthosis, advise on skin care and device maintenance, and schedule necessary follow-up appointments.
5. You will return 2-3 weeks following delivery for your first follow-up appointment with your orthotist. At your appointment, the focus will be on ensuring the device is functioning properly, fits comfortably, and is helping you meet your functional goals. Your orthotist will check that the MyoPro fits well and doesn’t cause discomfort or skin irritation, analyze your movement patterns, and optimize settings. You’ll discuss how the device feels during daily activities, including any challenges and what is working well. Your orthotist will also take time to answer questions and celebrate your progress. Subsequent follow-up appointments will be scheduled to continue ensuring proper fit, function, and servicing to best support your functional goals and long-term outcomes.
