Orthotic Treatment of Osteoarthitis
Osteoarthritis, caused by the deterioration of the cartilage at the end of your bones, is the most common form of arthritis.1 Osteoarthritis usually causes pain and joint stiffness. Although there is no cure for the disease, symptoms can be managed with a variety of interventions, typically including weight loss, staying active, taking acetaminophen or other pain medications, and bracing.
There are several types of orthoses designed to relieve pain due to osteoarthritis in the ankle, back, knees, shoulders, and wrists. They help by adding compression, stabilizing the joints, and offloading weight in affected areas.
Depending on the severity of your condition, you may need a custom orthosis made by a certified orthotist. For more mild cases, off-the-shelf braces can be purchased online.
