Ryan is a prosthetist/orthotist and Area Clinic Manager for Hanger Clinic in Gig Harbor, Washington.

Additionally, he serves as the National ExoSym® Program Director, leading the ExoSym™ Care Program in Gig Harbor while providing specialized prosthetic care. Ryan is the designer of the Intrepid Dynamic Exoskeletal Orthosis (IDEO*) developed in 2009 at the Center for the Intrepid, part of Brooke Army Medical Center. The ExoSym device, an evolution of the IDEO, has been adapted for broader application.

In his career, Ryan has significantly contributed to the field of prosthetics and orthotics. In 2000, he joined Northwest Prosthetic and Orthotic Clinic, serving the University of Washington and Harborview Medical Center. Promoted to Vice-President and Clinical Director in 2005, Ryan focused on trauma-related amputee care, including advanced Targeted Muscle Reinnervation (TMR) and upper-extremity myoelectric prosthetic fittings. He pioneered the first private practice TMR fitting and rehabilitation protocols, emphasizing high-functionality prosthetics for both lower and upper extremity amputees.

Ryan transitioned to the Department of Defense in 2008 as the lead Upper Extremity Specialist at the Center for the Intrepid. His work supported service members with combat-related upper and lower extremity amputations. He spearheaded research initiatives, including the DEKA arm VA/DoD project, and oversaw complex upper-extremity cases, from partial hand systems to recreational and athletic prosthetics.

Joining Hanger Clinic in 2013, Ryan established a specialty prosthetic center in Gig Harbor, serving diverse upper-extremity needs for patients locally, nationally, and internationally. The clinic provides comprehensive care, fabrication, optimization, and training, all within its Gig Harbor location.
