Amputee Walking School

Amputee Walking School by Hanger Clinic, Formerly Kenney Orthopedics

This course offers a unique opportunity for collaboration between amputees and therapists. Amputees of all ages and abilities, even those who do not yet have a prosthesis, are encouraged to attend.

Specialists, Dennis and Todd, provide training in advanced amputee exercises appropriate for all levels and abilities. They introduce the dynamics of prosthetic devices and how to properly control them. As a result, therapists gain necessary skills to help advance their amputee patients to the next level, and amputees learn how to use their prosthesis more effectively, enabling them to interact with their environment with more confidence.

Dennis Oehler

A below knee amputee having competed in the 1988 Paralympic Games, Dennis set a world record in the 100 meter event and won gold medals in the 200 and 400 meter events. Dennis has been working with amputees for more than 25 years and became an Honorary Lifetime member of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists in 2002.

Todd Schaffhauser

Trainer

An above knee amputee, having competed for the Paralympics Track and Field Team in 1988 and won a gold medal in the 100 meter event. Todd has worked in the prosthetic community for more than 25 years and became an Honorary Lifetime Member of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists in 2002.
